Majeena 2017: Culture and Tradition

With a flashback to last year’s Majeena event at the Islamic House of Wisdom during Ramadan 2016 you’ll see the smiles and laughter of kids so eager to celebrate the birthday of Imam Hassan (a). On June 9th, 2017 at 10:30pm at the IHW in Dearborn Heights, MI we will be celebrating once again through an event that is dedicated for the families, and especially the kids, to honor the virtues of Imam Hassan (a). Community members are encouraged to bring their kids and come celebrate with  raffles, prizes, and goodies for all.

Through the Ramadan tradition of Majeena, we are instilling in our children the importance of celebrating our heritage and being confident in our identity as practicing American-Muslims. Majeena is a tradition that has been carried over by many in the Muslim community from the Middle East, celebrating the birthday of Imam Hassan ibn Ali (a) during the holy month of Ramadan. The tradition is characteristic of passing out candy and goodies to children as a symbol of Imam Hassan’s (a) generosity. As the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s), Imam Hassan (a) was known for his chivalry, selflessness, and generosity to all people. Our goal is to instill those same values in our kids – Majeena is a beautiful way to contribute to that goal.
