The Imam Hussain Foundation in Windsor, ON held a celebration in honor of the birthday of Imam Ali on Saturday, April 8th, 2017. The guest speaker for the program was the Mainstay Foundation’s Jalal Moughania. His presentation focused on identity and community engagement. Drawing from the works of our scholars and the letters and sayings of Imam Ali, Moughania emphasized that our principle-based identity as followers of the Holy Prophet and his family allows us to be practicing believers while being contributing members of our society. Imam Ali’s instruction to his appointed governor in Egypt, Malik Al-Ashtar, that he must treat his citizens as either “brothers in faith or equals in humanity,” is the reigning philosophy for our identity and our relationship to others in society. Attendees walked away with greater insight into how to look at themselves as well as their relationships with friends, families, and neighbors.
