The Mainstay Foundation is a 501(C)(3) service-oriented non-profit organization focused on strategic initiatives. The foundation was established in 2013 by a collective team of individuals who had the passion to work toward advancing the Muslim community in the United States of America. This team has served in a host of capacities, institutions, and organizations across the nation.
Mainstay, the term, is defined as “a very important part of something; something or someone that provides support and makes it possible for something to exist or succeed.” In order to build our community, we believe it is essential to organize as a collective, garnering our efforts and talents to help individuals grow and assist organizations in their development.
The purpose behind establishing The Mainstay Foundation is to foster and facilitate growth and progress in the Muslim Community in the United States by advancing individuals, developing organizations, and building the community.
The Mainstay Foundation UK is our sister organization in the United Kingdom. It was founded with a mission to assist in the advancement of Shia Muslim communities globally in the areas of Faith, Education and Development.
We know it’s important to you that your donation is being used effectively. It’s important to us, too. We are on a mission to effectively coordinate the human and financial resources in the national community to execute necessary initiatives in specific focus areas that will advance the interests of the Muslim Community in the United States of America. Our vision is to be proactive leaders in community building and development by being the team that focuses on planning and executing strategic initiatives that can advance the interests of the Muslim Community on all levels.
On the one hand, The Mainstay Foundation U.S. works primarily in the United States of America. Our headquarters is in Dearborn, Michigan. However, we have been investing a lot of resources, time, and effort to help serve our national and global community. While the Department of Human Development focuses its work in serving the local community, our Research, Organizational, and Economic Development Departments focus on serving the national and even the global community.
On the other hand, The Mainstay Foundation U.K. (our sister organization) has been working on developing Shia Ithna Ashari Muslim communities globally, by means including economic development projects particularly among disenfranchised and vulnerable populations, the promotion of national and international conflict resolution and reconciliation, and providing relief to victim populations of conflict and natural disasters.
theHUB is a project of The Mainstay Foundation created and designed for American Shīʾī Muslim organizations and centers to connect, communicate, and collaborate. The online resource platform is a mechanism to facilitate and manage the National Network. Open for all American Shīʾī Muslim organizations and local centers that join the National Network, the Hub is an effective means for members to share resources, exchange experiences, and benefit from services that can address common challenges and foster development for the community.
The Mainstay Foundation works only with centers and organizations that share our goals and objectives and are committed to servicing their local communities. We work with centers and organizations that:
Serve their community by providing an educational, enlightening, and spiritual programs and outlets.
Do not oppose mainstream Shiʿah IthnāʿAsharī schools of thought within the seminary institutions of Najaf and Qom, and or similar establishments.
Do not promote controversial/extremist topics that may create disunity and disharmony within our community and other communities, domestically and abroad.
The Mainstay Family is a passionate and determined group of monthly givers on a mission to help us advance individuals, develop organizations, and build communities. People like you, from more than 35 states around the nation, are engaged with us and giving anything they can to prove how unstoppable we are when we worktogether.

The Grant Providing is a program supported by our generous donors, especially the Mainstay Foundation – United Kingdom. We are able to provide this service to assist Islamic Centers and Organizations that share our goals and objectives and are committed to servicing their local communities.
The Mainstay Foundation has a grant department that reviews and evaluates all applications, following all procedures set up by the Board of Trustees and Executive Team. The Foundation’s staff supports the work of the committee but has no direct input on grant making decisions.
In any official grant-providing program, there are strict criteria and requirements to be eligible for the grant. Some of these requirements are for legal and compliance purposes. Others are established by the foundation in order to determine who is qualified based on the goals and objectives of the grant.
First, your center or organization must be registered with the state as a non-Profit corporation. Second, your center or organization must be exempt as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, or can qualify as a “church” (i.e. mosque) per the IRS regulations.
No, all information pertaining to the grants including deadlines is found on theHUB. In order to be eligible to apply for a grant, your center or organization must have a Mainstay verification ID number which is a prerequisite for grant eligibility. You can obtain this number by filling out a form found on theHUB grant providing page.
