Retreats in Najaf

“Our message lies in you. You are our ambassadors of soft power…”

– Ayatollah Shaykh Al-Sanad, Islamic Seminary, Najaf, Iraq

Building a deeper understanding of our heritage strengthens our identity and is a crucial part of development. Mainstay spearheaded a project that would connect Muslim professionals and students living in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada to the Holy City of Najaf – home to the Imam Ali Shrine and the center of Islamic learning. Through 10-day seminar-styled retreats, participants engaged directly with the senior most ranking scholars of the seminary.

While the participants greatly benefit from their experience, so do the scholars themselves. During these retreats, they deepened their understanding of the challenges facing communities in the West and appreciated the group’s openness and interest. In these short trips, strong bonds are created between the scholars, the professionals, and the students. Those bonds carry on into their daily lives and have allowed for a true path of communication and connection to be had.
