The Mainstay Foundation is excited for this year’s D.R.I.V.E. – a holistic camping experience that aims to acclimate attendees to an enhanced way of thinking that is grounded in identity, discipline and vision. D.R.I.V.E. stands for Define & Reinforce your Identity & Values for Excellence.

This retreat is intended to be a fulfilling summer experience that aims to empower teens and instill in them a sound sense of identity that will help build their self-esteem and bring a greater sense of self-worth.

The retreat will center on personal development, providing essential lectures, workshops, and activities that aim to empower and inspire teens. Learning will be reinforced with team building exercises and interactive engagement with vetted mentors.

Through deep insightful lecturing, wholesome physical activity, and engaging social gatherings, the retreat aspires to achieve a harmonious balance of physical, mental, and emotional advancement, essential for a successful life.

SPEAKERS BIOS

Shaykh Mohammed Al-Saadi

Shaykh Mohammed Al-Saadi is a student at the Islamic seminary (hawzah) in Najaf, Iraq. He and his wife have been studying there since 2011 while spending their breaks to teach and lecture across the U.S. Shaykh Mohammed received his B.A. in Communications with a double emphasis in Electronic Media and Speech at the University of Michigan where he also minored in Philosophy and completed his Pre-Medical requirements. 

Sheikh Hanif Mohammed

Sheikh Hanif Mohammed is a mental health professional in Atlanta, GA. He is the founder of Inviting to the Straight Path., an organization whose main emphasis is on helping Muslims and non-Muslims alike gain a better understanding of Islam. Sheikh Hanif is also involved in inter and intra-faith dialogue in programs and functions across the country. Well versed in both Islamic and biblical texts, he is a frequent and well established lecturer on an array of social and religious topics.

Alwiya Buthania Bahar Al-Aloom PhD LPC 

Alwiya Buthaina attained her doctoral degree in Counseling. Her Areas of interest are emotional intelligence . She has a private practice, Community Therapy, where she offers specialized individual counseling for women and teenage girls via face to face and online sessions. She specializes in depression, anxiety, stress management, parenting and family conflicts. She is involved in multiple projects designed to promote improved mental health for widows and increase training in the academic area in this field outside the US.

Hajjah Zahraa Hamka

Hajjah Zahraa Hamka has been a student of the Islamic Seminary in Najaf since 2011. She graduated from Wayne State University in 2010 with a B.S., majoring in Psychology and minoring in Mathematics. In her spare time, she lectures and teaches classes in Theology and Islamic Law. She currently resides in Najaf with her husband and two boys.

Sayyid Haidar Bahrelelom

Sayyid Bahar al-Aloom is a director and strategist at a research and advisory firm. In addition, he is an Islamic lecturer and educator who focuses on teaching and mentorship. Bahar Al-Aloom is an adviser to The Mainstay Foundation, assisting with strategy building, program development, and community partnerships.

Mohamed Ali Banoon

Mohamed Ali Banoon is Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Mainstay Foundation. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School and is also a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelors in Political Science and Economics. He has served a number of nonprofit organizations for over several years in various capacities, where he has been using his legal and analytical skills to advance his communities. Banoon is a practicing attorney and partner at the AT Law Group, PLLC based in Dearborn, Michigan.

Jalal Moughania

Jalal Moughania is a practicing attorney and counselor at law. He is a partner at the AT Law Group based in Michigan, where he focuses on the firm’s business law practice. Moughania holds a J.D. in Law and a B.A. in Political Science and Psychology. He serves as the Deputy Director at the Mainstay Foundation. Moughania is also a researcher, writer, and lecturer on topics related to Muslim-American identity, civic society, and Islamic thought.

Sayyid Abathar Tajaldeen

Sayyid Abathar Tajaldeen is the Executive Director of the Mainstay Foundation, overseeing the organization’s six major initiatives. He has been involved in non-profit religious and educational work for over ten years. He has led some of the largest events and programs held for Muslims in the City of Dearborn, through organizing and coordinating the collaborated efforts of dozens of community organizations. Tajaldeen is also an instructor for Islamic classes and a lecturer for major programs in the community. He holds a J.D. from Wayne State University and a B.A. in Political Science and Economics. Tajaldeen is a practicing attorney and partner at the AT Law Group, PLLC based in Dearborn, MI.
