Leadership: The Board of Trustees
The highest governing body of the organization is the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees guides the direction and strategic mission of the organization. The Trustees also reviews the activities and budget of the organization, making sure that all of the organization’s activities are in line with its purpose, mission, and vision. The Board of Trustees also serves as a dispute resolution mechanism for any dispute that cannot be resolved by the lower bodies of the organization.
Khodr Hamka, Chairman
Khodr Hamka is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Mainstay Foundation. Hamka has dedicated extensive time and effort to the support of charitable and nonprofit work over the past 20 years. He served in high-level positions in a numerous organizations, including as Chief Executive Officer of a national religious association. In supporting these efforts, Hamka draws on years of professional corporate experience. His more than ten years of experience as a consultant with Microsoft Corporation has made him an asset for the Muslim community nationwide.
Mohamed Ali Banoon, Secretary
Mohamed Ali Banoon is Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Mainstay Foundation. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School and is also a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelors in Political Science and Economics. He has served a number of nonprofit organizations for over several years in various capacities, where he has been using his legal and analytical skills to advance his communities. Banoon is a practicing attorney and partner at the AT Law Group, PLLC based in Dearborn, Michigan.
The Executive Team
The Executive Team is in charge of executing the day-to-day operation of the Foundation, consistent with the purpose and objectives of the Foundation. The Executive Team is led by the Executive Director, who is assigned by the Board of Trustees based on the details articulated in the by-laws.
Abathar Tajaldeen, Executive Director
Abathar Tajaldeen is the Executive Director , overseeing the organization’s six major initiatives. He has been involved in non-profit religious and educational work for over ten years. He has led some of the largest events and programs held for Muslims in the City of Dearborn, through organizing and coordinating the collaborated efforts of dozens of community organizations. Tajaldeen is also an instructor for Islamic classes and a lecturer for major programs in the community. He holds a J.D. from Wayne State University and a B.A. in Political Science and Economics.
Jalal Moughania, Deputy Director
Jalal Moughania is a practicing attorney and counselor at law. He is a partner at the AT Law Group based in Michigan, where he focuses on the firm’s business law practice. Moughania holds a J.D. in Law and a B.A. in Political Science and Psychology. He serves as the Deputy Director at the Mainstay Foundation. Moughania is also a researcher, writer, and lecturer on topics related to Muslim-American identity, civic society, and Islamic thought.
Rima Fouani, Human Resources
Rima Fouani is the human resources lead and an advisor to the Foundation. She is an established professional in the financial sector and is currently a senior financial consultant at The Auto Club Group, the 2nd largest nationally ranked Membership Company in the United States and Canada. At the Foundation, she is working to ensure proper policies and practices are in place for the internal operations of the foundation. For the past several years, Fouani has volunteered with various Muslim non-profit organizations, where she served in a number of high-level positions including Chief Financial Officer.
Amal Hammoud, Finance
Amal Hammoud is the Foundation’s lead for finance and fundraising. Hammoud is a non-profit accounting and financial consultant with over 17 years of experience as a corporate accountant in a number of medium sized firms. During her career she has also managed the finances and accounts of a number of national charitable organizations. Through her work, she has helped organizations establish effective, transparent, and efficient accounting practices. Hammoud holds a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Michigan – Dearborn.
Mariam Harajli, Human Development
Mariam Harajli leads the Foundation’s human development initiatives. An avid supporter for education and youth development projects, she has been instrumental in managing this expansive initiative that spans across projects like publications, educational courses, workshops, seminars, events, and more. Harajli is a proud wife and mother of four. While she is devoted to her family and community, her inspiration and drive comes from her love and dedication to nonprofit religious work. In this time she has served as events coordinator for a international orphan organization, organizing fundraisers and traveling to orphanages across the globe.
Lana Fawaz, Organizational Development
Lana Fawaz leads the Foundation’s organizational development initiatives. She has over seven years of leadership experience in nonprofit organizations. She has worked on several projects involving community development and coordinating collaborative efforts between organizations, both local and national. She’s played an integral role in consulting and organizing projects including her role in sponsorship, fundraising, and public relations.
Zahraa Solagh, Outreach and Public Relations
Zahraa Solagh is responsible for public relations and outreach at the Foundation. A committed member of the organization and an active member of the community, she has helped build the organization’s network especially with families and youth across the community. She has served in a number of nonprofits and humanitarian organizations with a passion for service and a focus on youth development. Solagh earned her Bachelors of Science from University of Detroit Mercy with high distinction.
